SPOKANE, Wash. — The Shades of Motherhood Network (SOMN) is proud to announce the launch of the Spokane Shades of Wellness & Joy Initiative, an innovative, community-centered program designed to improve maternal and family wellness by combining direct financial support with culturally responsive care and community resources.
The initiative will provide eligible pregnant and postpartum families with up to $600 per month for 12 months (up to $7,200 total) while connecting participants to a comprehensive network of wellness services. More than a financial assistance program, the initiative is designed to reduce barriers, strengthen family stability, and improve maternal health outcomes across Spokane County.
“Every family deserves the opportunity to experience pregnancy and parenthood with dignity, support, and joy,” said Stephanie Courtney, Executive Director of the Shades of Motherhood Network. “The Spokane Shades of Wellness & Joy Initiative is about investing in families, building community, and creating healthier futures for parents and babies.”
Participants may receive access to:
- Family Navigation services
- Full-spectrum doula care
- Mental health counseling
- Peer support groups
- Wellness programming
- Parenting education
- Community events
- Healthcare and wellness partnerships
The initiative also introduces the new Shades of Wellness App, providing participants with easy access to program updates, wellness resources, educational materials, appointment reminders, and direct communication with the Shades of Motherhood Network team.
Applications follow a transparent six-step process beginning with an eligibility form and continuing through community review by the Community Wellness Review Circle, ensuring a fair, equitable, and community-led selection process.
The Spokane Shades of Wellness & Joy Initiative reflects the Shades of Motherhood Network’s commitment to addressing maternal health disparities while building stronger, healthier communities through culturally responsive care, trusted relationships, and holistic wellness.
Families who are pregnant or up to 12 months postpartum and live in Spokane County or surrounding service areas are encouraged to apply and learn more about available resources.
