Romans 8.31: “What shall we say in return to this, if God is for us who can be against us?”
Volunteering at the Maji Rising Healthcare Fair with The Links Incorporated was a wonderful experience. The rain and chilly weather didn’t stop anyone; we all showed up and supported our community. It was incredible to witness people of color confidently providing, supportive and holistic health care. This showed me that we already possess everything necessary to care for our health and well-being. The Maji Rising health fair was a reminder that community strength is at the heart of true healing. When we come together and lift each other up, we create spaces where everyone can thrive on our own terms and with dignity. That kind of self-reliance is powerful and necessary. It reminds us that we have the strength, knowledge, and resources right here to support and heal one another holistically.
The event was supported by our Council President and Mayor, whose presence reinforced just how important this movement is. Their backing showed that our leadership believes in and values the health and well-being of our often-overlooked communities. That support made it clear that we are not alone in this long journey of achieving health equity and equality.
Throughout the fair, gospel singers filled the space with uplifting music, and it was clear that God was present with us, and he will forever be. Members of our community have been working hard for equity for people of color in the Healthcare system and it is through the grace of God that their hard work is paying off and being acknowledged. With that being said; God will forever be with us, and “What shall we say in return to this, if God is for us who can be against us?” The answer is no one.
Let us continue taking care of each other and we’ll see how far we go. The Maji-Rising Health Fair reminded me that healing isn’t something that only doctors or hospitals can provide; it starts with us. When we depend on each other and lean on our faith, we create unbreakable networks that lift everyone up. We’ve got everything we need to thrive, and with God by our side, let us continue to rise.
