“DEFY THE STATUS QUO, BOSS. DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT, AND WATCH YOUR LIFE LEVEL UP.” -Grant Cardone
I know that we have all been passionate about one thing or the other, in most instances we eventually lose interest or give up halfway and most of the reasons for doing so are quite silly. Many times I have come across people who say things like I am not doing this anymore because my friends are not into it or I am not going anymore because it is too hard or I’m not talking to them because so and so doesn’t like so and so. Fear of the unknown and/or potential negative consequences often hinder our ability to make choices or become adaptable, thereby limiting personal growth and innovation. I recently interviewed with a classmate who had a part in the recent theater production at Shadle Park High School.
Chioma Millersmith shared a hopeful outlook on trying new things. Despite having stage fright, she boldly chose to pursue her passion for singing, highlighted by her recent role as Chiffon, one of the three singers in the play “Little Shop of Horrors”. As a junior in high school, Chioma shared her journey, beginning with her early venture into acting at the tender age of five. She took a short break in eighth grade but reignited her passion for theater in high school. She explained that she was drawn to the excitement of working with diverse individuals and the opportunity to create something truly unique. Overcoming stage fright through sheer determination, she embraced the power of performance. Emphasizing the universal appeal of art, she believes it can be expressed in countless ways and should be accessible to all. Her advice to aspiring artists is simple yet profound: “Just do it!”
In the long run, people’s opinions don’t matter. No one cares! So, try new things and live life to the fullest. Life is too short to be boring, right? Break the routine. Whether it’s picking up a new hobby, visiting different places, or trying things that challenge you, step outside your comfort zone. Conquer your doubts and do not let your fears hold you back. Pushing yourself to overcome these self-created obstacles can be incredibly rewarding. Not only will you gain new skills and experiences, but you’ll also boost your confidence and resilience. In addition to that you will also meet new people. Networking is key. Join clubs, attend events, and connect with people who inspire you and who can help you on your journey. Build relationships and expand your network. Remember, every new person you meet is a potential friend, mentor, or partner. Do not let life pass you by. Embrace the extraordinary. Make every moment count. Remember, you’re the captain of your own ship. So, set sail and chart your own course. Go out and grab it!
